Diageo Africa has appointed John Musunga to head its newly formed South, West and Central Africa (SWC) market.
Musunga is set to assume his new role at Diageo SWC as Managing Director (MD) based in London.
Prior to the appointment, Musunga has been heading Diageo’s Nigeria subsidiary since October 2022 and has also served as a non-executive director at East African Breweries Limited (EABL).
Diageo Africa’s President and Chief Commercial Officer Dayalan Nayager hailed Musunga as a highly regarded and successful executive leader who boasts of a wealth of knowledge and leadership experience spanning over twenty years across Africa.
“As we launch the new South, West and Central Africa market, I am delighted to announce the appointment of John Musunga, currently CEO and MD Guinness Nigeria, as inaugural Managing Director, effective 1st January 2024,” said Nayager.
The newly formed SWC business market will comprise two territories covering Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean and West and Central Africa.
The Board of Guinness Nigeria PLC has named Adebayo Ali (Bayo) as the incoming Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the firm effective 1st January 2024 following Musunga’s exit.

Musunga joined Diageo in 2021 as MD of Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) and in September 2022 was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Guinness Nigeria PLC.
He steered the firm’s business in Nigeria through immense socio-economic volatility while delivering performance, the highest engagement scores in Africa and Diageo while focusing on growing talent.
Musunga has previously served at British-based pharmaceutical firm GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) where he held various senior global and regional roles.
