Kenya Airways (KQ) is set to reintroduce weekly direct flights from Nairobi to Mogadishu from 14th February 2024.
This follows the temporary suspension of flights on the Nairobi-Mogadishu route in August 2020 as part of the efforts by the airline to mitigate the spread of the novel Coronavirus.
The national carrier will kick off the phased flight resumption with three weekly flights to Mogadishu.
“We are eager about the potential of re-establishing the link between Mogadishu and Nairobi through KQ. This move aligns with the increasing business and the growing number of air travel between Kenya and Somalia,” said KQ’s Chief Commercial and Customer Officer (CCCO) Julius Thairu.
“Kenya Airways is committed to providing high-quality service for our customers, as we work together to foster trade and investment for sustained growth,” added KQ’s CCCO.

KQ noted the resumption of flights to Mogadishu is part of its network expansion strategy and commitment aimed at enhancing connectivity across the African content.
Moreover, the national carrier noted that the resumption will also seek to contribute to the long-term economic development of the continent.
This comes after KQ towards the end of October increased its daily flights to London, United Kingdom (UK) to two.
The National carrier has attributed the move to a surge in the number of customers flying to the UK.
As a result of the increased market demand for the route and growing passenger demand, KQ deployed the B787 Boeing Dreamliner on the route.
As a result, the Pride of Africa’s total flights to the UK jumped 40 per cent to 14 flights from the previous 10.
