Kenyans will pay less for fuel commodities after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has slashed the price of the commodities for the new review cycle.
For the April 15 to May 14 review period, the prices of a litre of super petrol, diesel and kerosene will be down Ksh5.31, Ksh10 and Ksh28.68 respectively.
As a result, a litre of super petrol will retail at Ksh193.84, diesel at Ksh180.38 and kerosene at Ksh170.06 in the capital city Nairobi during the review period.
This is from Ksh199.15, Ksh.190.30 and Ksh188.74 for petrol diesel and kerosene respectively in the previous cycle, when the price of the commodities went below the Ksh200 mark.
“The prices are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020,” stated EPRA.
“The average landed cost of imported Super Petrol increased by 4.86% from US$703.49 per cubic metre in February 2024 to US$737.69 per cubic metre in March 2024; Diesel increased by 0.003% from 1755722.49 per cubic metre to U55722.31 per cubic metre while Kerosene decreased by 0.69% from US$730.38 per cubic metre to US$725.31 per cubic metre,” added the energy sector regulator.
In the coastal city of Mombasa, a litre of petrol, diesel and kerosene will go for Ksh190.66, Ksh177.21 and Ksh166.99 respectively.
Motorists in Kisumu city will part with Ksh193.66 for a litre of petrol, Ksh180.59 for a litre of diesel and Ksh170.31 for a litre of kerosene while those in Nakuru will pay Ksh192.90, Ksh179.82 and Ksh169.56 for a litre of petrol, diesel and kerosene respectively.
