AAR Insurance Kenya has appointed Justine Kosgei as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), taking over from Patrick Gitonga.
Kosgei joined AAR Insurance Kenya in November 2022 and assumed the role of Principal Officer in February 2023, credited for having played a pivotal role in driving remarkable growth, with a 32 per cent jump in AAR’s revenue and a strengthened market share.
“His focus on profitability through optimized claims ratios, efficient underwriting, and strategic partnerships has contributed to the company’s impressive 83 per cent growth in profit before tax,” stated AAR.
“This appointment marks a significant moment for our company as we continue our transformative journey dedicated to serving our customers and meeting their evolving needs with innovative products. Under Mr. Kosgei’s leadership, we are confident in our ability to embrace new challenges and opportunities, anticipating a positive impact on our company’s growth and success,” it added.
Working closely with management, Kosgei led growth initiatives in both established and developing markets, introducing new products such as SME Product, Budget Products, International Medical Insurance, Travel and Professional Indemnity, while enhancing existing offerings.
Prior to joining AAR, Kosgei served as Divisional Director at APA Insurance and Heads of Operations at Old Mutual Rwanda.
He also served at UAP Insurance as the Head of Products & Underwriting and Regional Technical Manager – in East Africa and undertook a management secondment to Mutual & Federal in South Africa.
Mr. Kosgei holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Actuarial Science from Kenyatta University. He is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI), an Associate of the Insurance Institute of Kenya (AlIK), and holds a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Section 4 certification.
He is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master of Science in Finance (MSC).
