EPRA Hikes Fuel Prices By Ksh5 For Petrol, Diesel

The retail price for a litre of Super Petrol and Diesel has gone up by Ksh5 to retail at Ksh134.72 and Ksh115.60 respectively in Nairobi, while Kerosene prices remain unchanged at Ksh103.54.

In a statement, the Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) said the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol increased by 13.34% from US$596.79 per cubic metre in January 2022 to US$676.40 per cubic metre in February 2022; Diesel increased by 11.74% from US$606.16 per cubic metre to US$677.31 per cubic metre while Kerosene increased by 15.94% from US$534.38 per cubic metre to US$619.57 per cubic metre.

“The applicable pump prices for this cycle for Super Petrol and Diesel have been increased by KShs 5.00/litre while that of kerosene has been maintained at the same level as in the immediate previous cycle. The Government will utilise the Petroleum Development Levy to cushion consumers from the otherwise high prices,” said EPRA.

The Free On board (FOB) price of Murban crude oil lifted in February 2022 was posted at US$ 74.36 per barrel a decrease of 9.35% from US$ 82.03 per barrel in January 2022. Over the same period, the mean monthly US Dollar to Kenya Shilling exchange rate depreciated by 0.18% from KShs. 113.58 per US$ in January 2022 to KShs. 113.79 per US$ in February 2022.
