Most people feel that the political campaigns season is the most volatile time for any investment, especially in African countries where elections are marred with chaos and unrestlessness. In such time, most investors close their businesses fearing that they could run into losses.
However, while others fear making losses, others take the risk and mint millions in a very short period of time by investing in well-thought-out business ideas. The ideas could be short-term but can be extended to cover other non-political dynamics of business.

Here are some resourceful ideas that can mint you millions during the political season, especially in Kenya:-
- Design, branding, advertising
During campaigns, every politician wants to look good before the public. This could be achieved through billboards and wearables such as T-shirts, bracelets and even reflector jackets for boda bodas. As an investor, if you can get a couple of politicians giving you the job to do their branding, you can make millions. All you need is a computer for design work, the skills for design and branding and a good printer. If you cannot afford a printer in this matter (printers for outdoor banners and clothes are expensive to buy), you can liaise with another businessman with the facilities, who will print for you at a lower cost.
2. Consultancy
It could be communication, law, economics or drafting campaign manifestos. Most politicians, especially in Kenya, are not experts in any field and thus need the input of experts to look “brilliant” before the crowds. Present a proposal to them on how you can help them, and you’ll be surprised at how many get back to you with millions for your services. You never know, the efforts you give might land you a job if your clients win elections.

However, never bank on promises of a job, that will never pay your bills. Anyone who wants your services should pay you with money, not promises.
3. Transport
Risky, ye, but promising. If you have a car that you rarely use, you can hire it out to politicians to use during campaigns. Currently, the cheapest rate for car hire business is around Ksh2,500, translating to Ksh75,000 for 30 days. This could give you a few hundred thousands if you hire out your car for a few months of the campaign.
4. Security
Although this has been a preserve for a few security companies, you can show your prowess and win yourself a contract, in case you are an expert in the field.
In all the business ideas, make sure you are paid before the campaign period is over. Most politicians tend to hide after the voting day, leaving you high and dry.
