Head of Presidential Communication Service David Mugonyi has been appointed as the Director General (DG) of the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA).
In a letter to CA Chairperson Mary Wambui, Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Cabinet Secretary (CS) Eliud Owalo directed the authority’s chair to formalize Mugonyi’s appointment.
“Reference is made to the above and a letter from the Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service (Ref: SH/GM/22) dated 19th December, 2023 (enclosed) conveying approval for the appointment of Mr. David Mugonyi as the Director General of the Communications Authority of Kenya,” stated CS Owalo.
Following interviews conducted by Communication agency, the agency’s board settled on David Mugonyi as the suitable candidate for the position of Director General.
He takes over from Ezra Chiloba who resigned after the Authority’s board suspended him in September over allegations of violating his role by self-applying for mortgages without following due procedure.

Christopher Wambua was appointed as the Communication Authority Director General in an acting position following Chiloba’s suspension.
Wambua had served as CA’s Director of Communications and Public Affairs before his appointment.
Chiloba took over as the DG of CA from the late Francis Wangusi whose term at CA lapsed in August 2019.
He served as the Communication Authority Director General for two years, having been appointed in October 2021.
