The Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) has advertised the position of Director General (DG) following the resignation of Ezra Chiloba.
Through a notice, the agency is seeking to recruit a candidate who plays a crucial role in the management and oversight of the institution, ensuring that CA fulfills its mandate of regulating and promoting the ICT sector in Kenya.
The Director General will also be responsible for providing strategic and visionary leadership and will have full operational responsibility for the development, implementation and evaluation of strategic business plans of the Authority.
Moreover, the DG will be tasked to provide CA with the leadership, expertise and strategic direction needed to effectively regulate, promote, and lead the technology, communications, and broadcasting sector in Kenya.
In addition, the qualified candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with industry stakeholders, government agencies, and international bodies, and will be the primary representative of CA in negotiations and discussions related to the sector.
Interested candidates should possess a minimum of ten years of relevant work experience with at least five years in senior management.

Moreover, one should have a Bachelor’s Degree in either Telecommunications, Information Technology, Applied and Physical Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Business related fields, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution before making an application for the post.
“Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications, including a detailed CV, a cover letter, and contact information for three professional references by Friday, 17th November 2023, 5.00 p.m. East Africa Time (EAT),” CA indicated in the notice.
One can either apply via mail to jobs@ca.go.ke or hand-delivered in a marked envelope of the position being applied for at the agency’s headquarters in Nairobi.
The position fell vacant after the Authority’s board suspended Ezra Chiloba in September over allegations of violating his role by self-applying for mortgages without following due procedure.
Chiloba later resigned from the agency and the board accepted his resignation.
“On behalf of the Authority, I wish the outgoing Director General success in his future endeavours and appreciate his invaluable contribution to the organization and the wider ICT sector,” stated CA Board Chairperson Mary Mungai.

Christopher Wambua was appointed as the CA Director General in an acting position following his suspension.
Wambua had served as CA’s Director of Communications and Public Affairs before his appointment.
Chiloba took over from the late Francis Wangusi whose term at CA lapsed in August 2019.
He has previously served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
He was suspended from his position at the electoral commission by former IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati due to procurement queries at the commission, a decision he challenged in court before resigning months later.
Chiloba served as the CA Director General for two years, having been appointed in October 2021.
