The immediate former Secretary General of the National Council of Churches of Kenya Rev Canon Peter Karanja has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the GEMA Cultural Association, the organisation’s Executive Council has announced today.
GEMA is a cultural association of the ethnic groups of Gikuyu, Embu and Meru. It traces its roots to pre-impudence period, formed to agitate for the return of land by colonialists to the locals and who later galvanized around it to launch the independence war of Mau Mau.
The statement released by GEMA Cultural Association noted that the decision to appoint the CEO was to “strategically revamp and strengthen the operations of the Association and its institutions”.
The appointment was announced by the association’s chairman Bishop Lawi Imathiu at Ufungamano House in Nairobi on Wednesday.
