The government has increased toll charges for motorists using the Nairobi Expressway effective 1st January 2024.
In a Gazette Notice dated 19th December 2023, Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen made the announcement that will see motorists pay more to use the Nairobi Expressway.
In the reviewed changes, the least amount one will pay to use the road is Ksh170 from the previous Ksh100 while the maximum amount one can spend is Ksh500. from the previous Ksh310 per trip.
“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 4B (3) of the Public Roads Toll Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport approves the toll rates for the Nairobi Express Way as set out in the Schedule hereto:” reads the Gazette notice.
“The Base Toll Rates may be adjusted as per the CPI and Exchange Rate on and after the Commercial Operation Date.”
Motorists traveling on the Expressway from Mlolongo and exiting at Westlands will cough Ksh500 up from Ksh310. Those using the 27-kilometre double-decker road from Wesdtlands to Mlolongo will pay a similar amount.
The shorter routes from Mlolongo and Syokimau to the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) exit will attract a fee of Ksh250 and Ksh170 respectively.
Exits that will attract the lowest charge of Ksh170 on the Expressway include from SGR to Eastern Bypass, JKIA to Eastern Bypass, Eastern Bypass to Southern Bypass and Southern Bypass to Capital Centre, Southern Bypass to Haile Selassie and Capital Centre to Haile Selassie.
A trip from Capital Centre to Museum Hill, The Mall to Haile Selassie, The Mall to Museum Hills and Nairobi Westlands to Museum Hill will also attract a charge of Ksh170.
