Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) Njuguna Ndung’u has appointed Humphrey Wattanga Mulongo as the new Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) commissioner-general.
In a gazette notice number 11078 dated August 22, 2023, CS Ndung’u made the appointment making the new commissioner-general to take over from Rispah Simiyu who has been serving in an acting position after the resignation of Githii Mburu in February 2023 to pursue personal interests.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 11 (1) of the Kenya Revenue Authority Act, 1995, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning appoints— Humphrey Wattanga Mulongo to be the Commissioner General of Kenya Revenue Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 22nd August 2023,” said Treasury CS.
Githii Mburu took over from John Njiraini, who had served as the Taxman commissioner-general between 2012 and 2019.
Before her appointment in an interim position as KRA’s commissioner general, Rispah was serving as the commissioner of domestic taxes.

Mulongo holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Harvard University in the United States of America (USA).
He has a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Wharton School of Finance, University of Pennsylvania, USA
He boasts an experience spanning over 15 years serving in different capacities as a business development, corporate finance and transaction advisor to private equity entities, private sector companies, development finance institutions, governments and public organizations.
He has also served as a commissioner and the vice-chairman of the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA).
Mulongo is a member of the Kenya Institute of Bankers (KIB).
